Many computer users prefer to install their operating system "clean" by simply using their old Windows disc to verify they own a copy of the software. However, that appears to no longer be possible using an Upgrade version of Windows Vista due to the fact that they disabled disc checking during the installation.

This means a user would need to purchase a full copy of the OS in order to perform a clean installation. Upgrade discs would only work if a copy of either Windows 2000 or XP is already on the system.

An internal document from Microsoft has revealed that there is a workaround that will allow end users to use a Vista Upgrade disc to complete a clean install of the new operating system.

Paul Thurrott, one of the most well-known Windows experts, has exposed a workaround that has come from one of the software giant's internal documents and it has been confirmed to work.
